Wicker loungers wrap a metal or wood frame in weatherproof PE rattan for a fuller, more furnished look. Sling loungers stretch breathable fabric over a steel or aluminum frame, so they're lighter and dry fast. Resin is a single molded piece of plastic you can hose clean and leave out year-round. Wicker feels the most like furniture; sling and resin are the easiest to move and store.

Molded resin and all-weather wicker ask for almost nothing beyond a wipe, since neither rusts nor fades. Aluminum frames are rustproof too. Fabric slings are easy but last longest brought in over winter, and any acacia wood eases to a gray patina unless you oil it once a year.

Most of these loungers lock the back at set angles, from three positions up to seven, by lifting the armrests or moving a notched bar. A couple use a delta-lock that grips at any angle for a more exact recline. Every one goes from upright for reading to flat for a nap.

It depends on the model. The cushioned wicker recliners include a full-length cushion and pillow, while sling and resin loungers use a contoured seat or thin pad instead, which is what keeps them light. Any of them takes a separate lounge pad if you want more padding.
