All-weather wicker, more precisely called PE rattan, delivers the woven texture of traditional wicker without traditional wicker's fatal weakness outdoors. Natural rattan splinters and unravels once it gets repeatedly wet. PE rattan is a synthetic resin engineered to shrug off sun, rain, and temperature swings while looking essentially identical, which is why it dominates the outdoor seating aisle.

The frame underneath does the real work. The weave is largely cosmetic. Powder-coated steel resists rust and supports more weight, which matters on sectionals seating six or more. Bare or simply painted metal corrodes at the welds within a season or two, and once the frame goes the furniture is finished regardless of how good the weave still looks.

Weave density and strand thickness. Tightly woven, thicker strands hold their shape and resist the sagging that makes older sets look tired. Loose, thin weave is almost always the first component to fail.

UV stabilization. Quality PE rattan is UV-treated so it does not chalk or turn brittle. Untreated synthetic wicker fades and cracks, particularly in southern and high-altitude sun where UV intensity is greatest.

Cushion thickness. Anything under three inches becomes uncomfortable within about twenty minutes. Most sets in this collection use cushions around three and a half inches.

Conversation sets suit smaller patios and are built for talking rather than lounging. Sectionals deliver more seating per square foot and work best pushed into a corner. Larger multi-piece sets earn their footprint when you host regularly, but they overwhelm a compact deck, so measure the usable area before committing.

To keep wicker looking new, rinse with a hose and mild soap a few times a season, using a soft brush to reach into the weave where dust and pollen collect. Bring cushions in or cover them during prolonged rain, since cushions almost always fail well before the wicker does.
