This is the heavier of the two solid acacia chairs we carry, rated to 400 pounds and noticeably more rigid to sit in because of it. If a chair is going to see constant use through a summer, or be used by guests of varying sizes, the extra frame strength is what you feel.
A seat angle that does the work
The seat is gently sloped rather than flat, which tips your hips back and lets the backrest carry your weight instead of your lower back doing it. That is the whole idea behind the Adirondack shape, and it is the reason these chairs stay comfortable far longer than a straight-backed patio chair. Wide armrests give you somewhere to set a glass down and something solid to push off when you stand.
Acacia and what it asks of you
Acacia is naturally oily and dense, which is what makes it hold up to rain and sun without chemical treatment. Untreated it drifts toward a silver gray. A yearly coat of exterior sealant keeps the warmer original color. Neither path changes the working life of the chair, so treat it as a purely aesthetic decision.

The weight is the point
This is a heavy chair and the mass is deliberate. Solid acacia resists moisture and insects on its own, so the only real decision is whether you want it honey-colored or silvered.
One coat each spring
Wash it with mild soap and water, then brush on exterior hardwood oil if you want the original tone back. Skip the oil and it weathers to gray, which suits a lot of decks better than people expect.
Drag, do not lift
Because of the weight, drag it rather than lifting it alone, and check the hardware each spring. Where winters bring hard freezes, cover it or bring it in.
